Highlights: City and harbour views, bunkers, wind turbine

Length: 0 - 1.5 hours

Where: Brooklyn, 10 min by car from Wellington CBD

What to take: Active wear, camera

The walk up to the recently replaced Brooklyn wind turbine is perfect for a still evening or sunny day in Wellington - they didn't put a wind turbine here for nothing, and on a windy day it gets v blustery!

Getting there: The carpark and start of the Brooklyn wind turbine track is located half way up Ashton Fitchett Drive, about 10 minutes drive from the Wellington CBD. Head along Brooklyn Road as if you were driving to Brooklyn and once in the township take a right up Todman St and follow the signs up the hill.

From the carpark, the track winds its way upwards around the hill. At the top of the first hill, take a sharp left to explore the bunkers and enjoy panoramic views across to the Rimutakas. Walk back the way you came, and once you reach the track that brought you up, turn left and take the path that follows the fence line of Zealandia. The path winds its way up and around the edge of Zealandia, with occasional glimpses of the harbour and Cook Strait to the left. It takes just over half an hour to reach the wind turbine from the car park, and you will know when you hit it! Enjoy the views from the flats around the turbine, and then return back the way you came. If you are after a bigger walk, there is also the option to continue on towards Hawkins Hill.
